#1 Diamond Hogs romp Tigers to complete SEC opening weekend sweep

Behind Mason Molina’s 10-strikeout performance, No. 1 Arkansas (17-2, 3-0 SEC) romped Missouri (9-11, 0-3 SEC), 9-1, Sunday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium to finish off its SEC Opening Weekend series sweep.

With Sunday’s win, the Razorbacks, who have won seven consecutive SEC Opening Weekend series, clinched their sixth conference-opening series sweep in their last seven tries since 2017. Arkansas also swept Mississippi State at home in 2017, Kentucky at home in 2018, Missouri at home in 2019, Kentucky at home in 2022, Auburn at home in 2023.

Missouri had no answers against Molina, who fired 5.1 scoreless innings and matched his season-high with 10 strikeouts for the third time this season. The left-hander, who earned the win to improve to 3-0, lowered his season ERA to 2.74.

STARKVILLE – For the first time since 2003, the Mississippi State Bulldogs took the series from the LSU Tigers at Dudy Noble Field. The Diamond Dawgs run-ruled the Tigers 15-5 in eight innings.

The Diamond Dawg offense showed up in the Sunday series finale against No. 2 LSU, pounding out 15 hits. Two of those 15 hits were back-to-back homers by Dakota Jordan and Hunter Hines.

Aaron Downs Had a day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Dakota Jordan continued to make his power known, collecting his 10th home run of the season. On February 21, 2024, Judge Rakoff (SDNY) granted a defendant’s motion for attorney’s fees and costs in Carnegie Institute of Technology v. Fenix ​​Diamonds.

The Carnegie Institution for Science and its patent licensee, the now-bankrupt M7D Corp., accused Fenix ​​Diamonds of infringing on two patents (the ‘078 Patent and the ‘189 Patent) directed to producing laboratory-formed diamonds. Two of the world’s finest high jumpers will compete at the second Diamond League meeting of the season in Suzhou next month.

Olympic champion Mutaz Barshim will face New Zealand rising athlete Hamish Kerr in a high jump clash at the second Wanda Diamond League meeting in Suzhou on May 27th.

The two global gold medallists are set to showcase a thrilling competition as Kerr is the world leader this year, having cleared 2.36m to take her maiden global title.

Three-time world champion Barshim has prioritized training in the build-up to his Olympic defence, as he has not competed since winning his third Asian Games title in October last year.

Speaking ahead of the match, Barshim said, “I’m happy to be back in China to start my new season. Last year I finished my season in China at the Asian games and it was fantastic atmosphere and support.”

The 32-year-old added that he had never been to Suzhou but was looking forward to visiting and competing there.

For Barshim, the event in Suzhou will be one of the critical indicators of his form as he strives to become the first to ever win two men’s Olympic high jump titles.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Antwerp police conducted six raids on Wednesday and made four arrests as part of an investigation into several diamond imports suspected of being Russian-origin, Antwerp’s public prosecutor’s office said in a statement on Friday.

The investigation is the first related to the EU and Group of Seven (G7) import ban on diamonds from Russia that began on Jan. 1 to punish Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine. A wider ban on Russian-origin stones imported via third countries began on March 1. Russia’s state-owned company Alrosa is one of the world’s largest diamond miners.

The investigation was launched after customs officials seized diamonds in late February, the statement said. A spokesperson for the prosecutor said three shipments had been confiscated.

The Belgian city has for centuries been a global diamond hub, particularly for rough diamonds, although 90% of polishing is now done in India.

Sources familiar with the matter said the value of the three seized shipments was in the millions of euros. One source specified the overall value was around 8 million euros ($8.64 million).
