BHUBANESWAR: Most of the jewelry stores in the city witnessed heavy crowds on the occasion of Dhanteras on Friday. People visit their nearby jewelry shops to purchase gold, silver, diamond, gemstones and other jewelry items. Jewelry shop owners said the response was very warm this year and the day’s business may surpass that of the 2022 Dhanteras.

Fresno mother-daughter duo specializing in polymer clay earrings

Posted on 30/12/2025 By Syifa

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Claudia and Isabella, the mother-daughter duo behind “Morenita’s Creations,” are channeling their creativity into wearable artwork.

“I randomly get epiphanies of what I should make,” Isabella said.

The 12-year-old doesn’t look for trends — she thinks about her community and what would best suit them.

Some showcase her love of watercolors, while others honor her culture.

Whether it’s a holiday or an ode to their heritage, the eye-catching pieces make a statement.

“In our creations, we give a little of our Latino flair, so Dia de los Muertos for example, or things that remind us of growing up,” Claudia said.

Claudia’s family is from Guadalajara Jalisco.

“I wanted to capture some of the colors we saw when we went and visited the pinks, the vivid blues,” Claudia said.

The business started as a pandemic project.

“We tried baking, but it didn’t turn out great and we tried painting, but I would get frustrated at the paints,” Isabella said.

They found their passion in polymer clay and perfected their ability to treat, mold, paint and bake original pieces.

Initially, the single mom just wanted to show her kids how to give back to the community, gifting earrings

Pandora Now Only Sources Recycled Metals for Its Jewelry

Posted on 24/12/2025 By Syifa

Pandora, known for its affordable sterling-silver charm bracelets, is the world’s largest jewelry company by volume: The Danish chain sells more than 100 million pieces annually. This week, it announced that it is now sourcing only 100-percent-recycled silver and gold for its collections.

The move was touted as an important step by a massive company to reduce its environmental footprint. “We wanted to lead by example,” Pandora’s chief executive, Alexander Lacik, said in an interview. “If we can make positive contributions to society through our use of recycled gold and silver, it means anyone can do it.”

By working with metals that have already been mined, Pandora won’t be digging deeper in search of new materials, allowing the company to substantially reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Mining requires more energy and resources than recycling and is a leading source of mercury pollution. In a 2020 news release announcing its shift to recycled metals, Pandora cited statistics from the World Gold Council and other entities showing that the process of recycling gold reduces emissions by about 99 percent compared to mining it, while recycling silver reduces carbon emissions by about 66 percent compared to mining it.

HIALEAH, FLA. (WSVN) – A man and woman involved in an armed robbery in Hialeah were arrested after nearly a month of detectives searching for the criminals.

Hialeah Police took 55-year-old Lourdes Diaz and 24-year-old Julian Flores into custody in connection with the Sept. 16 robberies, during which the victim was targeted outside her beauty salon, and a large amount of gold jewelry was stolen.

A police report stated that the victim was leaving her beauty salon, located at 7751 W 28th Ave. She was in the process of loading a large box containing valuable gold jewelry into her 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe when she was approached by Flores.

“The mother was befriending the victim, asking her questions, ‘How much jewelry do you carry? How much does this cost? Can I see? Would you bring it to me to see it,’” said Hialeah Police Officer Scarlett Hernandez. “And then wait for her for the perfect opportunity to be able to batter her, scare her to death and take the jewelry.”

According to the arrest report, Flores forcefully attempted to snatch the victim’s luggage, hitting her hand with the firearm.

The victim, afraid for her life, resisted and screamed for help, holding

Vancouver Island jewelry dealer targeted by thieves for 22nd time – BC

Posted on 18/12/2025 By Syifa

A Vancouver Island jewelry dealer says he’s taking a hard look at whether he wants to stay in business, after being broken into yet again.

Jeff Ross, who owns Gold Silver Guy shops in Nanaimo, Qualicum and Duncan, said the break-in Tuesday night was his 22nd in 25 years and the fifth this year alone.

What’s more, this is the third time thieves have been able to get into one of his shops through an unconventional method, and one he has little to no defense against.

The thieves, he said, were able to break through a wall of concrete cinder blocks at his Qualicum location, before cutting out the security system and eventually breaking into the safe.

‘Sasumata’ in high demand after thwarted jewelry store robbery in Tokyo

Posted on 03/12/2025 By Syifa

Two 18-year-olds have surrendered to police after attempting to rob a jewelry store in Tokyo. The incident took place in the Ueno district of the capital on Sunday. Footage taken by a bystander showing an employee chasing three suspects away is creating a buzz in Japan. What many viewers are interested in is the unusual tool the employee used — a traditional Japanese weapon called sasumataa long forked polearm.

Now, an auto parts manufacturer that produces sasumata has become pending with orders and inquiries.

What is sasumata?

Sasumata is a protective weapon in the form of a forked polearm. Its history dates back to the Edo period (17th-19th century) when it was used to capture criminals. Today, police and various institutions and businesses are trained in the use of defensive weapons. Many schools in Japan are also equipped with them.

Will the next generation of wearables be earrings and jewellery? University of Washington researchers think so

Posted on 25/11/2025 By Syifa

University of Washington researchers have created a thermal earring that could be the first in a new generation of wearables

The wireless wearable collects health data from the earlobe

It shows promise for measuring signs of stress, eating, exercise and ovulation

There are ambitions to make this into a jewelery range for health monitoring

University of Washington researchers have created a wireless wearable in the form of a thermal earring that continuously monitors a user’s earlobe temperature.

In a study of six users, the earring outperformed a smartwatch at sensing skin temperature during periods of rest. It also showed promise for monitoring stress, eating, exercise and ovulation.

About the size and weight of a small paperclip, the earring has a magnetic clip that attaches one temperature sensor to a wearer’s ear, while another sensor dangles about an inch below it for estimating room temperature.

The earring can be personalized with fashion designs made of resin, without negatively affecting its accuracy.

Co-lead author Qiuyue (Shirley) Xue, a UW doctoral student in the Paul G Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering says many people find smartwatches and rings unfashionable, bulky or uncomfortable so earrings could be a viable alternative.
