Dublin Couple Desperate To Find Missing Engagement Ring

Mark Fearon and Orla Murray from Firhouse in Dublin had been on a high celebrating their recent engagement, when a series of unfortunate events left them devastated as the rest of the country was celebrating the Six Nations win and St Patrick’s Day.

After a number of opportunities to pop the question passed unsuccessfully, Mark finally got down on one knee and asked Orla to marry him while on holiday in Estepona in Spain at the end of February.

Speaking to EVOKE, Mark said he wanted it to be a perfect moment. ‘I was trying to find the kind of perfect time, the perfect place to actually propose. We’d actually gone off to the Aran Islands during the summer, and then [the ring] even went to a wedding in Italy. It just never ended up happening. So, I managed to keep the ring nice and safe, all the way up until then.’

But when the couple, who had two kids – Fiadh, five, and three-year-old Declan Óg – were on a family holiday in Spain at the end of February, Mark felt the time was finally perfect and he popped the question on the beach as their children watched on.

Mark and Orla were out celebrating their engagement with friends in the pub to watch Ireland’s Six Nations win over Scotland on March 16. After a fun afternoon, they made their way up Baggot Street and hailed a taxi home to Firhouse outside Eddie Rockets at midnight.

While in the car on the way home, Orla decided to take off her ring and give it to Mark for safe keeping, as it was loose on her finger.

The ring is of huge sentimental value. Mark had it made specially for Orla last summer. ‘I got the diamond from my mum, she’d been holding on to it for me for years and years,’ he explained. ‘I got it made into an engagement ring in the city and when it was getting made, I thought it looked too small but they said “We’ll resize it once you’ve proposed”.’

In the end, the stunning ring ended up being too big. Mark took the ring from Orla in the taxi and thought he put it into the side pocket of his wallet for safe keeping however, the next morning the ring was nowhere to be found.

‘We searched everywhere outside. All our neighbors came out and there was no one else around,’ he said, explaining that his Ring camera didn’t record anyone else walking by their house all night. ‘She just shouldn’t have taken it off her finger.’

Mark and Orla’s Ring camera did pick up the taxi that dropped them off at around 12.30 on Sunday morning. He can’t be sure, but it looks like a Toyota Carolla, and he believes it is a metallic color, possibly silver with a light blue tint.

Mark is adamant that the missing engagement ring is in the back seat of the car. ‘I’m just asking all taxi drivers to please check the back seat of the car,’ he said.

If you have any information that could reunite Mark and Orla with their engagement ring, feel free to reach out to EVOKE.
