A man is behind bars after a robbery was reported at a jewelry store in Winnipeg.

Monday afternoon, Winnipeg police said a man driving a Chevrolet got in a car crash near Chief Peguis Trail and Lagimodiere Boulevard. Officers said he left without exchanging information with the other driver.

Not long after, police said the same man went to a mall in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street while he was armed with a hatchet.

“While having his identity concealed, the suspect began smashing glass display cases at a jewelry store and stealing numerous items,” police said, adding he left again in a car.

Just before 3 p.m., officers said the 24-year-old man was found in the same vehicle, parked in the 700 block of Broadway, where he was arrested and police said they recovered the jewelry.

Throughout the last few years, lab-grown diamonds have continued to grow in popularity, not only for their authentic look but also for their accessibility.

These uniquely crafted gems are man-made in laboratories using technology that replicates the natural diamond-growing process — which consists of a tetrahedral arrangement of carbon atoms tightly bonded together.

The result of this lab-grown entity are diamonds that have the same optical, physical and chemical properties as those grown beneath the Earth’s surface.

How are lab-grown diamonds different from natural diamonds?

While there isn’t a huge structural difference between lab-grown diamonds and mined diamonds, one of the biggest differences comes down to origin. “Natural diamonds are extremely old,” Gemological Institute of America (GIA) manager of diamond research Ulrika FS D’Haenens-Johansson told ABC. “They formed up to 3.5 billion years ago, deep within the Earth, under extreme pressure and temperature conditions and were brought up to the surface through ancient volcanic eruptions.”

Saturn’s rings will disappear from view in March 2025, NASA says

Saturn’s rings will seemingly disappear from view in 2025, a phenomenon caused by the planet’s rotation on an axis. Saturn won’t actually lose its rings in 2025, but they will go edge-on, meaning they will be essentially invisible to earthlings, NASA confirmed to CBS News.

The rings will only be slightly visible in the months before and after they go edge-on, Amy Simon, senior scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, said in a statement to CBS News. Those who want to see what Saturn looks like on various dates can use the PDS rings node, she said.

Because the planet rotates on an axis tilted by 26.7 degrees, the view of its rings from Earth changes with time, Vahe Peroomian, professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Southern California, told CBS News via email.

Every 13 to 15 years, Earth sees Saturn’s rings edge-on, meaning “they reflect very little light, and are very difficult to see, making them essentially invisible,” Peroomian said.

The rings last went edge-on in 2009 and they will be precisely edge-on on March 23, 2025, he said.

New surveillance video shows burglary of Clio jewelry store | Crime

CLIO, Mich. (WJRT) – New surveillance video has been released of the Monday night burglary of a Clio jewelry store.

The theft resulted in the loss of nearly $10,000 in gold charms according to the owner of Bits and Pieces Fine Jewelry on Vienna Road in downtown Clio. She says they were the only items not locked away inside the vault.

“It was a shock and we are just frustrated,” said owner Cynthia Swick.

Surveillance video shows someone breaking through the door near 10 pm, before shattering the case and taking what was inside. Once the alarm inside starts going off, the suspect makes them escape within a minute of entering.

“There were about 108 charms,” said Swick. “They range from a hundred to a few hundred dollars so probably about $10,000 worth of stuff.”

Clio Police are now working to identify the thief. Because it happened so early in the night, Police Chief Wendell Millstead was the first to arrive on the scene.
